Recession, depression, lets call the whole thing off

Quote:

"When the economy collapsed again in 1937, they didn't want to call that a new depression, and that's when recession was first used," he said. "People also use 'downward blip.' Alan Greenspan once called it a 'sideways waffle.'"

arts funding cut out of recovery

This afternoon the U.S. Senate, during their consideration of the economic recovery bill, approved an amendment offered by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) that stated "None of the amounts appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used for any casino or other gambling establishment, aquarium, zoo, golf course, swimming pool, stadium, community park, museum, theater, art center, and highway beautification project." The amendment passed by a wide vote margin of 73-24.

How do you link casinos with zoos and museums???

Stimulus package passed

Quote:

Much of the money would go for victims of the recession in the form of food stamps, unemployment compensation and health care. There is money, as well, for construction of highways and bridges.

What worries me about this, how much of this money will be 'borrowed' from the chinese, so we can buy more chinese goods, so that our kids and our retirement will be paying for this bailout. While the direct aid to those who need it is generally a 'good thing', investing more in US and not us seems like a better long term plan. :dontknow:
