Best news ever? I thought the best news ever was Philly having 2 breweries.

Depends on your point of view. For me, having 2 was 'normal'.

I stopped by yesterday. They

I stopped by yesterday. They look like they're off to a good start. All the produce looked beautiful and they said they would be getting fresh produce every day. I didn't try the coffee yet but it looked good. The shelved products and the deli case looked nice, too. I was hoping for some fancy iced teas (Tazo etc, non-sugary kinds) but they were only carrying Snapple and Arizona so far.

I think this is going to be a great addition to the neighborhood.

You know what, I don't think

You know what, I don't think so. Although I spoke with one of the owners and he is a Fishtowner, old-school I think. So I'm surprised! The Foodery even sells Arctic Splash alongside the Tazo...

Went in yesterday, not bad

Went in yesterday, not bad at all. Prices were reasonable and the mix of fancy vs. basic seemed just right. The location is fantastic, I think they'll do quite well.

I am old school

I am old school neighborhood, but when I hear "sells Artic Splash and Snapple" I must admit I don't get the feeling that I'll find anything more interesting than any other spot except the fresh produce of course. That said, I don't want to judge a book by its reviewers. I've been the victim of that in my day and now! That said, I'm definitely stopping in tomorrow after work to check it out. I'm probably wrong. Half the time most people are, including me.

As long as the produce is

As long as the produce is fresh they have a step up on everybody else in the neighborhood.
(Not counting Greensgrow or farm stand).
Speaking of farm stands, does anyone know when the Amish will be back at St. Mary's park, (or Palmer Square, or whatever its officially called)?

I think the location will be the key. *Most* of us who work in CC use Girard as our El stop. The real question is whether the people really pining for such a place will give it enough business to stay liquid and keep the perishable turnover high enough. That's the problem most of the corner stores who try have run into....throw out enough produce that people aren't buying because it's a little more expensive than the super market and eventually you migrate to selling snacks, coffee, bottled drinks and smokes because people _do_ buy those.

If you haven't checked this

If you haven't checked this place out yet, this week would be a good time - there's a coupon for 10 percent off the total bill in this week's Star.

They have a great selection of breads, cheeses, and fresh produce. Also probably the best place in the neighborhood to get good coffee to make at home, including reasonably priced Torreo bags.

Good spot altogether if you are looking to do some gourmet home-cookin.
