L&I grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Ok so I just have to rant a few minutes here...

We have three "dangerous" vacant homes on the 2500 Block of Collins st- which I reported to L&I weeks ago.

Today I call to follow up on them. After talking with a regular rep from L&I he suggested I follow up with Joseph Deoreo (sp) who is in charge of our area.

First off, two of the houses I reported never made it to L&I even though I have recieved numerous automatic emails saying my complaints were recieved. BEWARE of this-- I was told that calling in these problem houses is the best thing you can do as thier online system does not work properly.

lovely right??

Anyway, I went on to describe the problems with the other two vacant homes..and I was promised L&I would be out by the end of the week to inspect them and contact the owners to fix the problems, then if that didn't happen then L&I would come back and fix them and the owners would be charged, blah blah blah.

Great right?

Well don't you all just want to know how Mr. Joseph Deoreo (sp) ended our conversation?

yes. you do.

Joe "How long have you lived on Collins St?"
me "We bought our house in March"
Joe "Well you might want to consider selling it and moving"
me "That is not a possibility, we like our neighborhood and want to improve it and will not be run off by deliquent renters, teens, and grafetti"
Joe "well, good luck then"

NICE.

I freaking hate this city- but I will prevail even if I have to turn uber vigilante.

yes. I will.

That is absolutely amazing,

That is absolutely amazing, even for Philadelphia. So now we have city employees asking our residents to leave. I hope either Nutter or Taubenberger somehow finds a way to rid our government of this crap.

I sugest you call one of the local news stations - they like doing special
investigations on this stuff. I have had the same problem with a house on Taggert. I called our councilman - Mr. D - he oversees L&I - just like you though - got nowhere.

Funny how L&I refuses to

Funny how L&I refuses to address this situation, yet it found no problem ordering Cease and Desist actions on my home on Olney Avenue while a Senior at La Salle University.

By the way, that's Jennaphr. I always wonder if she did that just for the PHL.

Hey Yosh.

Try Chris Brennan at The Daily News - he writes the Urban Warrior column, and is very knowledgeable about L & I and Fishtown issues. Take a look at his web site, which has his e-mail address: http://www.philly.com/dailynews/columnists/urban_warrior . If you don't hear back from him, send me a PM - I can give you his phone number.

Best of luck!
