Shirley's Hair place on Susquehanna?

Maggie's picture

Anybody know what happened to Shirley's Hair place on Susquehanna by Cedar? Went to the pediatrician next door today and saw the sign down, bags of stuff inside and a sign with Shirley's cell phone number (I left a message but haven't heard). They were really good and nice so its a shame if they just didn't make it...

I believe the building was

I believe the building was sold. Don't quote me, but I think the folks that own Kerrigan's Flowers bought it plus the the big building diagonally across from the Crazy Fish. That building used to be a funeral home. I hear it will be a deli with high end $1500 a month apartments through out the rest of the building.

Where is our friendly, lemonade drinking realtor when you need her?

Shirley closed the shop

Shirley closed the shop down; it was a decision that she made last month. I was told that the money really wasn't there.

Maggie, who was your stylist. I know one of them is freelancing right now; she is going to your home.

If you want to PM me; I have some phone numbers.

She's probably in the restroom after all that lemonade drinking . . .

Okay, you're sort of right,

Okay, you're sort of right, DNA. Shirley had a goodbye in this past week's Star or Spirit-I can't remember. She got a job offer too good to refuse.

Grapevine is that a Bob Murphy brother bought the multi-unit across from Kerrigan's--which Bob Murphy owns. He also owns the place where Shirley's place was--that's a REALLY COOL mixed use building: the upper floor contains a huge 1 bedroom apartment that a fishtown.us'ers used to live in before I sold them a house. Without naming names. That building, to my knowledge, did not sell. I thought it was a really good price actually, considering the upgrades. I had a few people interested but nothing ever transpired.

I used to live above the shop. Shirley leaving is a real loss. That shop was a major hub of activity and Shirley was a GREAT neighbor! She has some of the best window decorations around. I hope she is off to bigger and better things. (And the apartment is really great, with the exception of the occasional smell of a perm wafting up the steps)

Joe and Beth, who own

Joe and Beth, who own Kerrigan's, have yet to buy any property in Fishtown. They actually rent the space where the flower shop is... They said they are looking for a house in the 'hood though.

Yes, Mtown--didn't want to

Yes, Mtown--didn't want to "out" you. Btw, I was just thinking I'd love to see pics of your completed kitchen if you can send 'em my way. That house you got reminded me so much of my house but you took yours the complete opposite way and I have to admit I was a little jealous.

It sounds like Shirley is onto bigger and better things, yes.

Yes, Joe and Beth are house shopping in Ftown as I met them with Bob Murphy at an open house I had a few weeks ago. I for one am so happy when someone opens a business up in the city and actually lives here, as opposed to coming in from Jersey or the burbs. It's like I can doublely support them then! (Hats off to Ida Mae's, Johnny Brenda's, Germ Books, Hot Potato Cafe...feel free to add more here.)

Word through the grapevine

Word through the grapevine is a daycare center signed a lease on Shirley's old spot, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
