Bad experience, in need of a Good plumber

SalonBlush's picture

Hello Everyone,
I had a very bad experience with a Plumbing company (Tim Hughes) in Fishtown I paid a lot of money most of the work was done then they refused to come back (yes they were paid all). I called left messages, I keep getting the run around. They are trying to charge me an extra $2500 they "forgot to factor" in at the time of estimate. I dont have a contract so Im screwed, I am still going through a battle with them. Please if anyone knows of a good reputable plumber, heating and air. I would be so greatful, I have a few other things that need to be done. Thanks for listening

Thanks so much.. I dont have

Thanks so much.. I dont have the estimate, I know I know. Everything was done except one part I was waiting for the items to be installed to come in. When I asked them to come back everything changed and the person who gave the estimate was not the person who did the work. I paid about 10k for everything, and The owner refuses to call me back, It was huge mess, and still is. by the way it was TIM HUGHES plumbing company.
Thanks for the recommendations.

Here try this, a treasure trove of info.
It may not be fishtown but, oh well,
I prefer to have local relationships with the trades but I do not wish to give away my very hard earned dollars to poor workmanship.

I have not had good luck so far with the locals.

Please, some one give me info to prove me wrong.

There have been a few other

There have been a few other plumbing threads on here with local recommendations. You should be able to find them using the search function (unless they were lost in the changeover).

the better business bureau

the better business bureau only lists and reviews companies who agree to be listed with them. most disreputable companies don't pay to be a member for fear of being outted. it's a good idea to use a contractor listed w/ the BBB but you can't file a complaint against a co'y that's not a member (and most disreputable co'ys aren't).

you can sue them in small claims court for a nominal fee w/ the added benefit of a quick court date. document whatever you can; get witnesses if applicable; send them a letter demanding your money and ask for a response by a certain date. if you don't hear back from them, take everything down to small claims court & file a suit. you don't need an attny but they do - odds are, they'll just pay you. if not it's your word against theirs...the courts are all tooo familiar w/ seedy contractors & will prob'y lean in your favour (though the burden of proof is on you).
good luck!

They do, however, take complaints against non-members.

I also found that Tim Hughes

I also found that Tim Hughes is a member of the BBB -
so if you've been unable to resolve it with him personally,
then you may want to go through their process.
