for all you shaggy guys out there, i wanted to recommend joe sulimay's barber shop. it's on girard, near the intersection @ marlborough street. the place almost feels like you're going back into a 1930's parlor. joe is a really great guy & conversationalist -- there will be very few dead silences while you're there. he does a great job and, at $12, it's an excellent deal too. highly recommended.

always good for a debate with the handful of locals hanging out waiting, so says my husband whose haircut was comped by Joe right before our wedding.

Nunzio's on Front Street

Nunzio's barbershop on Front Street above Dauphin Street has been servicing Fishtown residents since the 1920's. His father started the business. Nunzio gives you a haircut, a lesson in politics(with old school sensibility), sports talk that rivals Angelo Cataldi, and a personal touch. Nunz doesn't run you in and chase you out of the seat because of time. A lot of local guys i know go there for their haircuts, he will sit you even if you show up after hours...

I'd like to recommend to all the shaggy guys....

STAY SHAGGY!

Don't give in to the "Feminize Your Face" pressures of modern society!

i don't disagree with these comments in general, but when you're 31 years old and the quality/quantity of your facial hair has not changed since the seventh grade, a razor is your friend.

Thank you for saving me....I was about to cave and follow the royal lip-treatment guidelines previously posted. Now I can keep my manly dull flesh colored thin lips.

Does this mean I can go for the unibrow look?

perhaps i should clarify that i was recommending joe sulimay for haircuts only, not for feminine facial hair modification. i consider my haircut to be my holiday gift to the rest of the world -- you do not want to see me with long hair.

He's closed Sundays. Usually open other days til about 6PM. I am not sure if he opens at 10AM or Noon. Joe Sulimay is one of the most awesome guys on the planet.

My head is beyond haircuts. At 25, all my hair started to migrate from the top of my head to my back, chest and stomach. So I says to my hair - [b:ac19a31c63]"Be gone!"[/b:ac19a31c63] Just like a woman...if it don't wanna hang around, I don't want it there. That's no way to live. So I bought clippers and now I get my haircuts from Victor, some little dude who works with me in the warehouse. Why am I telling you all this? Because I [i:ac19a31c63]still[/i:ac19a31c63] go to Sulimay's every now and again just to hang out.

Joe is one of the best conversationalists in Fishtown. And if I still had hair on the top of my head, I'd let him or one of his deputy barbers cut it.

thanks Jeff, I live in very close proximity to the old Hair's the Place on Montgomery and had my hair cut by Delores there for like 10 years. Since she closed down a couple years ago I've been a Nomad for haircuts. It'll be nice to start going to an old school barber again. ...and I know whatcha mean about the hair migration thing.
