We need to get back to old

We need to get back to old school. Take the guns away and what do you have. PUNKS. If the judges that let these people out on baail or parole had to do there time if they messed up Then I wounder if the system would change.

But these losers keep on

But these losers keep on getting put back on the street so the gov can have his prison population down and look good . Early release doesnt show up as a in house prisoner so we have career criminals roaming our streets just for political purposes . State police and the parole dept fugitive task force are busy chasing absconders (sp) because of this policy

What the H is going on in

What the H is going on in this city??!?! My god. Of course the scumbag survives. He gets rushed to the ER for surgery. They should have let him lay there in the street and bleed to death in the street like the dog that he is and then called his family and told him to come get him. Then we could hear the "He was a good boy" routine.

Officer's wife has a kid on the way and everything.

Just a note, he was not a rookie as someone previously stated, he was a 5 year vet.

Just awful. Sometimes I really hate this city.

Another very unfortunate and

Another very unfortunate and sad event has occurred in the city. It saddens me every time I hear of such occurrences. All too often these crimes are perpetrated by repeat offenders with known violent records repeatedly turned back onto the street until they commit such a horrific crime as this one that the wheels of justice suddenly take note and take appropriate measures that should have been taken previously.

Law enforcement is equally frustrated when they try to protect the citizens only to have the criminals they took off the streets placed back on the streets in short order. Additionally, the officers who place their lives on the line for a living that protect us are in most cases highly underpaid for their efforts.

I would like to feel that times will get better but with a deteriorating economy and infrastructure coupled with massive unemployment and people struggling for their basic needs, we may very well see a lot more violent crime in the future. I pray I am wrong.

That does not exist in our Commonwealth. There is no such thing as a 3 strikes and you're out rule in PA. So it is pointless to even argue that as a possible solution to this problem.

I don't know what the solution is, if one even exists. This city needs extreme measures taken. For the record, I am EXTREMELY liberal when it comes to individual rights and what not, however, the situation we are faced with here in Philadelphia is OUT OF CONTROL... I am all for Stop and Frisk. If some civil liberties get violated.....Oh the F well. This HAS to stop. Cops in these districts KNOW who is trouble and who is not. I know we LOVE to bash the Phila PD on this site (not EVERYONE mind you, just the same few posters time and time again). However, the reality is, the vast majority of people who do the criticizing couldn't last ONE week as a Philly PD officer. That job entails more stress in one week than the vast majority of you will face in a lifetime. There's way too many armchair quarterbacks when it comes to these matters.

I don't care anymore. I don't want to hear about the abuses of the 60's and 70's and Frank Rizzo and blah blah blah. This has gotten way out of hand.

During the days when my grandfather and my uncles were Philly PD, this would NEVER happen and if it did, the whole damn Highway Patrol would be sent in to bash EVERYONE's head in that even looked at them cross-eyed. Yeah, yeah, I know, that's so wrong and a violation of everything that is America. but, you know what? This stuff would NEVER happen on the scale that it does today. So, go ahead and give me a 1,000+ reasons why we should honor the civil liberties for every piece of S that happens to walk the streets of this miserable city. I don't care anymore, I've had it.

I've lived here my whole damn life, 30+ years, been to cities all over the country/world, and I constantly defend this city to EVERYONE, but you know what, I'm finding it harder and harder to do so.

Well said diamonds. I am also fed up and sick of people defending these criminals' rights. You commit a crime, a murder, a rape - YOU HAVE GIVEN UP YOUR RIGHTS. You are scum and should be dealt with accordingly. I say gather up all these lifetime criminals, put them on a remote desert island with all their drugs and guns and let them have it out. Get them out of society. I don't care what people say, most of these idiots cannot be rehabbed. JMO

Believe it or not, I agree with both of you as well. It's not about what's politically correct or not, or civil rights, even. We are in a state of emergency, in this city, as far as I'm concerned. I do not understand what is so wrong with having at least some fear of the police. While I have complained about police response time, here, I have also lamented the fact that our officers are overworked, underpaid, and completely unappreciated by the citizens of this city. For pete's sake, I got made FUN OF by people on the El, for saying "have a good night, thanks for your service" to two police officers. Why are people allowed to walk around this city like they own the place...with no fear of being caught doing the things that they do? Cops try to break up fights and get shot...they try to stop a robbery and get shot...they try to get the scene of a crime and get run over by high/drunk convicted felons on the way home from a score. So let's stop the suspicious looking weirdo on the corner and ask him for an ID...let's frisk the guy who passes something off to someone else in broad daylight. Do it. Do it in every single neighborhood, from Center City to Fishtown to Juniata to Manayunk to South Philly. Freakin' do it. If something doesn't change soon, I'm going to seriously reconsider whether or not I want to raise a family here. And people can [brooke] all they want about the new people who are giving up...go ahead and say that I'm a wimp or whatever...I don't care any more. This place is starting to feel like a zoo where all the cages have been opened and it's a free for all.

Ahhhhh...now I feel better. :)
