Friday Wellness Thread - January 30, 2009

Welcome to the thread formerly known as Prince...I mean, formerly known as the weight loss thread...

I recommended a diet-related website to a friend, the other day, and it spawned my idea for this week's thread. What are your favorite health/wellness/nutrition related websites? Here are mine.

www.fitday.com - this FREE site is a diet tracker. You can enter in the foods you eat and it gives you the nutritional info. You can even program in special foods and it saves them for future use. You can also track exercise. It will give you a calories in vs. calories out number, and tell you what percentage of your diet is coming from fat, carbs, and protein. It's seriously great.

www.hungry-girl.com - the woman who runs the site is always on the hunt for good, lite versions of foods that she normally wouldn't indulge in. Sometimes she goes a little overboard in her quest for my taste, but alot her recipes are great. Try the one for butternut squash fries...I hear it's awesome, even though I haven't tried it yet!

www.ivillage.com and www.healthylivingonline.com - ivillage and it's health-specific partner, healthy living online, are two great sites for workout ideas and diet reviews. I like healthy living because it will spit out weight lifting routines for me, so that I can keep switching it up on a regular basis.

Thanks for this Draper.

Thanks for this Draper. Great sites. Yesterday I went to whole foods and got a bottle of the concentrated Acai juice - it is supposed to be really good for you and is loaded with antioxidents. My old best friend from highschool is trying to get me to buy into theis Monavie stuff - it's $40 a bottle and some kind of multi-level marketing thing that I want no part of, but it did make me want to see what this Acai stuff is about. The concentrate tastes awful by itself, but mixed with a little juice it is palatable. I think right now, even though I could totally use to lose some weight, I need to concentrate on just starting to feel better and healthier. I am tired and just blah. I need to eat better, exercise and SLEEP more. Since I don't see me doing the latter two any time soon, I guess I will start eating better!

Yeah, I echo the "sleep"

Yeah, I echo the "sleep" thing.

I had recently told my doctor that while I function best at about 8-1/2 hours' sleep, my standard night was closer to about 7-1/4. I was horrified when I looked at my CPAP machine and saw that my last month's average night's sleep was just over 6 hours!

So that's my new health resolution - to get a solid 8 each night.

I'm still trying to convince Nunzio to do the CPAP machine but he is incredibly resistant. :(

Well, there's no doubt that death can often be the less complicated decision.

I am proof positive that

I am proof positive that tons of sleep doesn't equal weight loss. I average about 8 1/2 to 9 hours a night. Okay, I'm not fat but I'm not thin either. I could definitely right now stand to lose a few!!

Kat, If you wanna feel

Kat,
If you wanna feel better, eat colorful foods.
The antioxidants in the Acai are good, but can be found in lesser priced items.
Go for anything red/purple...pomegrantes,blueberries, (any berries really) carrots, tomatoes, watermelons,...
all loaded with antioxidants, and taste great.

You know what I meant by "colorful" foods....
Not to be confused with foods with color, or else we could all live forever on
Rainbow Skittles.

I love hungry girl, i have

I love hungry girl, i have her cook book, and have made quite a few things. I seem to function better off of 7 to 7 1/2 hours of sleep a night, and i try so very hard. But some nights I just don't get to bed early enough. I have been walking (somedays forcing myself) and seem to feel a little better.

www.flaab.com ... I can't

www.flaab.com ... I can't decide if I am in love with the principle or hate it.

I need a snarky gym buddy. Not someone that goes to my gym per se, but just someone to give me a verbal lashing if I get lazy. 10-15 years of guilt trip experience preferred.
