Brag about your organization!

There are plenty of great organizations in the neighborhood -

Choose the one (or one of the ones) you are proudest to be a part of and brag about the good things that it does!

I'm totally biased, but I have to brag about Summerfield.

Despite the tough time we've had over the last 18 months, we have continued making a big difference in the life of teenagers and children, and an important impact in the life of people struggling with chemical dependencies. Additionally, while a lot of churches (and other organizations) talk about or minister to those who are struggling, we actively minister with and include people in their struggles.

Since the group's inception in December 2007, the members of the Fishtown Beer Runners have accomplished the following:

Had forgotten about our very own jmminarik's election to the board. Maybe that's why he's been acting too cool for school these days.

The Friends of Penn Treaty

The Friends of Penn Treaty park continues to develop its role as Ambassador to this historic park. Incidentally, the only neighborhood park on the riverfront in Philadelphia. We continue to create more programs and events to take place there. Events taking place there hosted by the FPTP and other organizations include, Summer movie nights, Champagne in the Park, the River City Festival, an upcoming Summer weeknight movie series, children's events and more. Come enjoy the park. It's free!

Join us for any of the events, host your own, or come out and help keep the park clean every month on a selected saturday morning.

Check the calendar on this site for upcoming events, and if you're interested in supporting the group as a new member, check out our website: http://penntreatypark.org/

Friends of Pops

Friends of Pops Playground!

In the last several years we have (this list is not all inclusive and I am tired so...)

-done just about everything with little to no support from the city (though that was getting better but now who knows with the cutbacks :( )

-provided summer Art camp for the kids for next to nothing, movie nights, and special events (like presents for over 100 kids and a Christmas party, Halloween, ect)

-raised considerable funds from events, fundraising, and grants

-began construction with funds for skate space in underused portion of the playground

-created a community dog space in an underused portion of the playground which has just abour curbed ALL DRUG SELLING AND USE in the playground. Thats right. The creation of the dog space did this. Go figure.

-consistently kept the playground clean and free of grafetti

-provided a safer more enjoyable space for the community and kids and have established the continued improvement as a long term goal.

-Out of the 7-10 regular board members only 1 has any children. thats right- we don't even have kids.

POPS PLAYGROUND RULES

I also need to give a shout out to my other favorite groups- NKCDC and the Flat Iron Wildcat girls. ORCA has also been very supportive of the playground so they rule too.
