The bodega type market at Sepviva and Firth gets a payphone????

frankdatank's picture

I am completely outraged that the horrible eyesore of a market at this intersection actually had a payphone installed for the use of it's drug dealers. This bright yellow, ghetto, bulletproof glass place w/ the graffiti mural on the side is one of the only remaining eyesores in that area. The kids that hang there sell drugs all day long, smoke the blunts out in the open and now they get a payphone to order drug deals. I know alot of people that live in that area and they are ready to just rip that payphone out, vigilante justice style. I have also heard that the market's lease will not be renewed, I really hope that there is some truth to that rumor. GIMME A BREAK!!

I used to live on the next

I used to live on the next block. That place SUCKs. Always a problem. I sure hope their lease is not renewed. Along with the trashed bball court across the street, that block is a real drag on an otherwise pretty good area.

My aunt use to live at this

My aunt use to live at this ntersection 30 plus years ago. It was ghetto then with a lot of drug activity and its only gotten worse over the years.

Every day I drive down that street going home, and every day I feel like I am driving through a ghetto version of Sesame Street...

You're such a pessimist.

Maybe they put the phone in to help people who are job hunting.

pretty good story about a

pretty good story about a similar situation in west philly:

It seems like a lot of persistent complaining got the phone out of there. However, if this phone is new and on private property...its almost like the owners put it there to fuel the drug activity...

If the payphones have their

If the payphones have their number on them someone could call and announce a "raid" at inopportune times, no?

I live right down the street

I live right down the street from there. I never witnessed any direct trouble, but the fact that there are young adults hanging out outside that place all hours into the wee hours of the morning means obvious shady business.

also, forgive me if this is none of my business, but what happened to "Bunk"?

you can always shove stuff

you can always shove stuff down the coin slot, like glue etc.. to keep it out of order at least.
maybe add a nice sign: paint on it "drug dealer's order center"

That block is so

That block is so unbelievably ghetto I cringe every time I go down it. That corner store and the dilapidated basketball court across the street are such an eyesore on what is for the most part a decent street. It's a shame.

as dilapidated as it may be, I still see kids in that court playing games such as 4-Square and Stickball. kids are awesome that way. they can find good in almost anything.

Absolutely. That's one of childrens' best qualities. However, those kids deserve better than that. Especially the ones that are spending their time playing sports and doing something constructive and NOT hangin on the corner outside the bodega smoking blunts, littering, etc. Those kids you refer to should be able to play 4-square, stickball, halfies, etc. in a half-decent playground.

About $20 of every $100 goes to pension, health, & benefits. To learn more about where your money goes:

I haven't rode by this in a long time. I usually don't go down sepviva since much of the street is ghetto all the way down from lehigh ave including through fishtown. I have 2 friends parents who live there. Sorry if you live there but I'm just being honest. I'll have to ride buy and give a look at what da tank is talking about.

Bunk killed himself. Although it is a shame that anyone felt the need to do that and that a life was lost. I do not miss having to scrub his name off of my property every other week.

I thought Bunk was the kid who got shot and killed by someone else right outside that deli, about a year or so ago.

I just noticed tonight that

I just noticed tonight that the Sepviva Market or whatever it is called has two metal trashcans out front of it, and the one apparently was knocked over and all the trash (including several "pony" bottles of Budweiser) has spilled out onto the sidewalk. the trashcan was uprighted, but the mess is still there. I wonder if the shop owners will bother cleaning it up when they open for Sunday business?
