What are they filming at Johnny Brenda's?

plaidpony's picture

I thought for sure someone would have posted something already.
Did I just miss it?
What's the deal with all the lights and movie trucks at JBs?

I would think it's overdue

I would think it's overdue for them to step up and shoot a commercial for network tv.
George probably performs a musical walking tour, like applebees!

Dunno what they were

Dunno what they were shooting, but there were getting ready to light it up good when I was in the area:

I don't know about attacking. I see them as the sitting there eating their own poo type.

Try wearing a McCain shirt there, I should've had a hidden cam on me, there was attacking alright.

They are filming Rocky 18, Rocky vs Johnny Brenda.

Actually, they are filming scenes for that Bollywood movie. I saw the producers when they were scouting out JB's last week.

I've seen them film a few

I've seen them film a few different films here in the last couple of years, never saw or heard of any of them after that.
Probably one, "Two Bits" with Al Pacino was the biggest. They filmed at "Memphis Flats" (when it was an empty popcorn factory). I think they used the roof for some scenes. Generally, they're a pain in the butt...they divert traffic, take up parking spaces, and never buy anything from the local merchants...

They are fliming something

They are fliming something from a TV show there. Its one of those shows that focuses on strange places. JBs was voted as having the worst jukebox in America so they are going to film it.

HAHA...jk!

Ive also heard that the

Ive also heard that the department of homeland security hired Paramount to go in there and film people who are in there while there is football on. Since there is no TV in there, homeland security feels that those who would spend time in a bar with no TV while there are important football games on are a threat to our way or life and need to be monitored!!!

HAHA

The thread on Phillyblog beat me to it:

Assuming they're right about this being the Bollywood movie being shot around the city recently, here's more info on that:

Are you saying that DNA is not a reliable source for Hollywood insider-type gossip?

On a bright economic note,

On a bright economic note, sales at EKTA must be through the roof!!!!

It's a Bollywood

It's a Bollywood film...apparently pretty big-budget as well. They're filming primarily in the upstairs venue. As Kenzo alluded to, you'll be able to see me in the big song and dance number---singing a song of lament in Hindi for my lost love Chakikra Lakhshi Dharmasala while sipping a Dogfish Head Chicory Stout.

Simmer, agreed on the jukebox---that's why it's virtually never on in lieu of various iPod selections from the staff (mostly hipster-intensive stuff like Credence Clearwater...Beatles...Buddy Holly...you know, really obscure, dark stuff that people in black turtlenecks listen to).

By the way, last week we had yet another 'Metal Beard' show featuring local metal acts. That's about a half-dozen of 'em so far with more to come. You still maintain that JB's "doesn't do metal" or is it that you just don't check the listings?

Wait did you just equate Fishtown cuisine to that of Paris? Actually I think EKTA is probably the best Fishtown has to offer! JB's coming a close second.

dude, JB's was never close to 2nd in this area. Maybe if you want to go "fishtown proper" but even then I would wonder. Ive given up on JB's, other than a burger, they've skimped and raised prices thanks to the bollywood hype!
I have to admit though, no biz has done more for the area than JB's. (props)

I was going to say that

I was going to say that Memphis Taproom takes the cake for Fishtown, but then I realized...IT'S NOT IN FISHTOWN.

The best restaurant in this area is in...drum roooooooollllll...KENSINGTON! Port Fishington! Port Richmond! Whatever you want to call it...it ain't Fishtown.

What about McDonalds.

What about McDonalds. Billions and billions served. Let me see JB's or EKTA compete with that.

Yeah, I meant Fishtown proper. I guess I don't eat there often enough to notice a substantial difference. But yeah, when it comes to Port Fishington there are some solid options: Memphis Taproom, Modo Mio, Bistro Juliana and now Paesanos. Still, EKTA is the best value in town. But who knows, maybe the Bollywood types discovered the charms of Jovan's and the place is racking it in.

Shovelled_Up_Dead_Corpses_Rotting_You's picture

I know it's not Fishtown

I know it's not Fishtown either but how would you all compare EKTA to Tiffin? it seems that everyone has their own personal favorite between the two. I haven't been to either yet.

also, was I just not paying attention before or is the sign that is hanging out front of Jovans new?

I havent stated that JBs doesnt do metal since they started doing metal. I check the listings all the time. They sure do have metal bands. Once they stated booking metal I reprised. Now it just sucks cause of the jukebox and no TV!!haha
Peace, Love and METAL!!!!!

is in stores now!
