wow, someone with as sick a sense of humor as my own. I like. yeah I don't even normally take my dog for a walk around those parts but I needed to drop some mail off at the post office and headed back up Tulip. I just stood in amazement at that truck with my jaw hanging. brilliant!

I was almost shot on that

I was almost shot on that corner in oh, about 1981...the little white house on the corner used to be owned by a drug dealer, who evidently pissed someone off as I was walking by, and it was shot at quite a few times...but I digress...
speaking of grafitti, (I don't know if this is actual "grafitti" but it caught my eye)...a sticker on the Inquirer box at Belgrade and Susquehanna that reads
"White Pride World Wide"...nice...just in time for Christmas...some neighborhood traditions die hard.

Haven't you been reading the forums, codergrrl?? There's no racism in Fishtown!!

I'm sure the reaction would be outrage if the graffiti said " Don't laugh, your PUPPY may be in here"

Lauraska, I know your being

Lauraska, I know your being facetious, however...
I can read all the forums, and all the postings, but I've lived here for over fifty years, born and bred for better or worse, and let me tell you...its alive and well...and came quite close to the surface during the presidential campaign, (which I found so funny, that life long Democrats were suddenly, and throughly Republicans now!)...
I think the towners just try to pretend like they're "normal", when they see a newbie around, but its in the blood...I don't care what they say, I know it, and they know it.

don't worry, someone is already on the scene;

ah screw it. how do you have pictures show up on this forum anyway? it's not the typical IMG in brackets followed by the URL followed by /IMG in brackets again tag?

"used to be" being the key phrase, here. It's the year 2008, just in case anyone was wondering.

I walk this path nightly with my dogs. And it's basically out my backyard. There's always a bunch of kids hanging out on some steps but besides that, it's harmless. I'm going to guess one of the residents around here got irritated this truck sits there 24/7 to store motorcycles. It takes up two parking spaces, is always parked on the curb and moves about once a month. It's always tagged and the owner doesn't really seem to care.

Codergrrl, the white house was actually an abandoned bar and it sold about 2 1/2 years ago to its current resident for $320K. It's an awesome house now.

I immediately think of Season Two of The Wire and don't laugh at all. I don't know what my reaction would have been if I hadn't seen that.

Brooke, The white house on

Brooke,
The white house on the corner of Hewson and Tulip? With the hedge around it, as shown in the picture? I've lived here all my life, and I can never ever remember that corner being a bar...the other corner was, Tulip and Berks, a bar called "John's" or "Whitey's", but not that corner.
Believe me, the guy who lived there was a big time dealer...his name was Frank and he originally came down from Yonkers. After living in the Miller Court on Hewson street, he ended up in that corner house, which was appropriately tacky at the time, but pretty swanky compared to what most of us were used to.
Trust me on this one...I used to have two very good friends, (now both dead), who were very good "friends" with him.

The guy who lived in the corner was frank Nitti. No Lie! Thats the name he went by. It wasn't his real last name. I was friends with his daughter who lived in florida who came up to visit time to time. He was a big time dealer like you said. He was also known for exploiting drug addict girls into filming pornos at this house. The house used to have a mirrored bay window and steel doors. It was like a fortress. I know the guy who currently lives there. He's not into anything crooked. He is a former pro boxer. A good guy!

Oh, wow. I haven't heard

Oh, wow. I haven't heard anyone talk about Frank in years and years. He lived all over the place: Hewson Street, Thompson Street, Ella Street and then I lost track of him. He has to be well into his 60's now.
