New to the hood

Hey all! Mike here!

After skirting around the city for years (from South Jersey [Haddonfield area], to Malvern, to Abington) I've now landed in Fishtown, around Frankford and Susquehanna.

I'm loving it so far. The easy of getting around and having things so close on hand is great.

A quick question. Any recommendations for sports bars/pubs to catch some football on Sundays?

I also read somewhere about trying to get a Happy Hour going. I'm all up for one to meet my new neighbors.

Since I know there are a few PhillyBloggers on here, I'm the same MetalDeth81 that's on there.

Welcome!

I think the consensus is no good sports bars in the neighborhood, although you might enjoy watching at a few of the local watering holes, if you don't really need a "sports bar" per se.

I am thinking Dan was joking with that last comment, as most of the bars in Fishtown are sports bars. Good places to watch games:

Starboard Side, Les & Doreen's Happy Tap, Murph's, Handle Bar, JR's, Moe's, Paddy's Well...even some of the new fancier places like Memphis Taproom have the game on every Sunday. All good spots.

Being a drunkard and a God-fearing man, one thing I love about this neighborhood is that if you throw a rock, you will hit a church or a bar. Some folks can't even tell the two apart. Welcome to Fishtown.

I still think this is a good idea too. I'm thinking sometime in January, everybody is so busy from now until the New Year. However, the sinister part of me has not yet figured out how to get people to wear name tags with their fishtown.us handles at said happy hour. (I wish there was a way to point out the fishtown.us lurkers too!!!)

I guess the bigger question is, would anybody come? I have a feeling it could very easily turn into just me (and perhaps metaldeth) drinking for a few hours, which I guess isnt all that bad.

Welcome to the hood... I am pa few blocks from Frankford and Susky myself... your best bet close by for a beer and a game IMO is Paddy's .... its a pretty comfortable bar generally a nice vibe... but as stated there are plenty bars to go round and most will have the games on..... you will most likely get to know your neighbors one way or the other... round here its hard to avoid... they tend to get up in your business weather you like it or not....

That's basically what I was saying.

Especially if you add "sports memorabilia on the wall" to the description of "Sports Bar".

Your drunkard reminded me of a Friend I have' thats what I call him =) haven't talked to him in a while made me miss him, and I even sent him a subscription of the "drunkard" mag, he got a few laughs from the one where they visited Philly =)
