memphis taproom

I have heard a ton of good things about the Memphis Taproom and their food so I tried calling there atleast twelve times tonight to see if I could place an order and pick it up and no answer. And when I did not get an answer I got a busy signal about three times. So what is up with this place they just answer the phone when its good for them?

marmkid's picture

did you know its a bar?

did you know its a bar? that might be why its hard to get them on the phone, but i am not sure otherwise

i am not sure if you can order food and take it out there

it is really good though

They probably have caller id

They probably have caller id and know its you and are just ignoring you. Doesn't say anything about excepting orders for takeout over the phone on their site.

I basically hate everything,

I basically hate everything, but i LOVE the Memphis Tap. Instead of going online to BLOG about an unanswered phone, why don't you just walk/drive over there and place your order in person. Ftown66, that was funny

never tried calling them so

never tried calling them so I can't answer your question there, but it's an awesome bar. like someone else suggested, go there, order your food, and have a tastey beer while you wait for your food to be prepared.

I just called them and got through. I gave them a heads up that you'll be calling.

Diamonds you are cracking me

Diamonds you are cracking me up today. I love the Taproom. And the owners. Did you see the cool giant beer mug that Leigh put up on the fence? Now THAT is a holiday display! Makes me thristy every time I go by! ;)

didn't notice the beer mug but I do like the red lights that Spanky installed on the Memphis side of the building.

tonight is going to be an exceptionally awesome night at the Taproom. really wish I didn't have to work elsewhere!

New menu as of yesterday.

New menu as of yesterday. Yum. They have take-out containers--I don't think they do take-out. They don't have a phone at the bar that I know of--prolly in the office. Take a walk over--it's good exercise.

oh wow, thanks for the heads up about the new menu. it looks great! my only complaint is their batter. I think it's from personal experiences though. the first thing I ever ate there was their fried pickles. the next day I picked up a really nasty stomach virus. nothing to do with the food, it was just something that was going around my work. the other day I tried their chicken fried seitan and it had the same batter as the pickles and I couldn't even get past the smell. I took it home and fed it to my dog. she liked it just fine.

I'm not such a fried food

I'm not such a fried food fan but I once split an order of the suicide rings and did fine--and had a fried pickle. I have a sensitive stomach (which is why I tend to avoid fried stuff for the most part) and no problems.

As I sit at the taproom fairly often, I have seen people come in exclusively to pick up take out. However, its not very often.

And yes, there is a phone at the bar, but I have seen it go unanswered when they are really busy.

I am dying to try the new chickpea kibbe kebab! Sounds so good.

I've done takeout from there before. I've never called ahead of time... just stopped in and ordered, had a drink at the bar, and taken the stuff to go.

What's this about a chickpea kibbe kebab? Sounds interesting. I had a fried seitan the other week and fell in love. My date? Not so much. ;)

that's what I had the other day that I just couldn't stomach; the chicken fried seitan. again, like I said, it's not that it wasn't good. it was. it's just a mental thing for me because I contracted a stomach virus the day after I ate their pickles (which were delicious, btw) and now I can't eat anything that tastes or smells like their batter :(

I can't even eat pickles right now. just the thought makes me sick! and I love pickles!

Haha! Qbert and I already had this conversation, but I have to second her assessment of the chicken-fried seitan. I got it on Saturday and I couldn't believe how delicious it is. I can't wait to go back and have it again. Also, since the portion is so generous, I wound up taking one piece home. We reheated it in the oven last night and served it with spaghetti. It was just as delicious the second time!

I cannot assess Qbert's date. ;-)

Oh good lord! Where to

Oh good lord! Where to begin? In nor order in particular:
-- Thanks Kat, your love of my tacky Christmas beer lights means the world to me.

-- We do a TON of take out. You can call ahead or stop by. I can barely keep takeout containers stocked we do so much take out food! (By the way, we go out of our way to get biodegradable containers, it's super important to me. They're made of cane sugar!)

-- I am SO sorry that hendricks couldn't get through on the telephone, we have CHRONIC phone issues. (I dropped the original in the triple sink one night while I was washing glasses. Every phone we've had since has been a piece of crap, no matter how much I spend or where I get it.)

-- In addition to crappy phone (which i swear I will replace tomorrow, first thing!) it's sometimes very loud in the bar and we can't hear the phone ringing. Not sure what to do about that.

I hope that covers everything. Please try to call back. If you can't get through, stop by and yell at us for still having a crappy phone. We deserve it.

Cheers!
Leigh (@MT)

I love you guys but was so

I love you guys but was so sad that the chicken-fried seitan was gone from the menu, when we went for a delicious new year's day meal (although the chicken strips were an excellent consolation prize). Will you bring it back in the future? Pretty please?

I love MTR for their great

I love MTR for their great beer and good meat dishes, however, several of my non-meat eating friends complain about the menu. I have plenty of meatetarian friends, so I just go there with them or just to drink. I have heard from too many of the moaning veg heads that the chicken-fried seitan was gooey and gross. Im just saying.

I never thought I'd hear vegetarians complaining about the menu at Memphis Taproom. as a vegetarian myself, the menu couldn't be better. I haven't been there much lately (most of my money has been going to PGW, grr!) so I still haven't really studied the new menu. like I said in a previous post I wasn't too fond of the chicken seitan myself, looking forward to trying the bourbon BBQ seitan though! I've heard the new portabella patty melt is fantastic, by meat eaters and vegetarians alike! I don't know, I'm just really confused by how a vegetarian could complain about the food there. where else are you going to get food like that in the area at a gastropub/beer bar? closest I can think of is No Lib and I'd still put MTR's vegetarian menu above Standard Tap or the Abbaye or any of those places.

The A.L.T. is the best - our eldest daughter is addicted and asks every week to go there. I love almost everything on the menu - especially the veg items. Plus the atmosphere is really nice and Leigh and Brendan are super people. And guess what? WE BRING OUR KIDS IN TO EAT (INCLUDING THE BABY - but sans ginourmous stroller) and they enjoy it too! The beer is tasty as well!

Just another one of life's disappointments. I always thought avocado's were for guacamole, which you pushed off to the side so you could get to the good stuff. *sigh*
