Couponing is great... food

Couponing is great... food shopping is the one area I'm good at saving money in. I do my coupons and make my list out...

I had a personal best this past Sunday... $77.59 in coupons and $27.82 with my Super Fresh bonus savings card. Woo-hoo!

Always check before you leave the store...and assuming you're doing the coupon game type thing, you should be able to determine which inserts are in the paper before you head out. Doesn't the Daily News do coupons on Thursdays?

Personal Best last Saturday

Personal Best last Saturday - saved $96.78 in coupons and $47.98 with my Club Fresh Card. I shop at Superfresh. Thriftway never has anough variety plus with my creepy guy experience I won't go back for a while..

I spent a total of $210.00 for groceries for the week (3 adults, 3 kids, 3 cats and a dog). I swear am obsessed with saving money at the grocery store. This is a cool link - called the Grocery Game - it has saved me a ton of money.

The sales at T-way rarely coincide with available coupons as well. If Frosted Flakes are on sale, odds are there are no available Sunday coupons in our area. Back when we had time to play, I think our personal best was something like $27 for $210 at the old pathmark.

I pay for the weekend

I pay for the weekend inquirers (for no good reason, just because someone needs to support journalism) and while I don't always get the paper delivered I usually at least get the coupons (I think this week because of the phillies I only ended up with the travel section and the coupons). if you are out and about early on saturday or sunday mornings you could just take my paper's coupons.

i generally don't use coupons because of my shopping habits and i dont like putting the effort in. I can see why they are super useful for families, though. 210$ for a weeks worth of groceries seems insane to me. how do you fit all of that in your fridge/pantry?

We get teh paper delivered

We get teh paper delivered and if you go on-line, there is an area in teh customer service part that has a box to check if you did not get your coupons. That happened to me once adn within about two hours I got about three times as many coupons as I would regularly get in the paper!

Q - I am ALOT older than you and have been doing this forever AND have 5 more people in the house to feed. The more you buy the more you save. I think my whole house needs to go on a diet just to save money! lol For being single you save alot - GREAT JOB!

When I was shopping for a

When I was shopping for a household of 10 I always used coupons. I also was known as a cherry picker because I went to several stores to shop. Thirftway is one place I rarely used coupons because as Joe mentioned you never got an item on sale if the coupon was in circulation.
I enjoyed keeping a journal of all my savings. This month I paid off my mortgage ( hooray ) Coupon shopping and bulk buying was part of the reason we were able to do this and eat and bathe and wear clean clothes.( smiles) Good luck with the couponing and remember to look for the good sales. We are fortunate to have many supermarkets close buy.

Having a big freezer downstairs has helped alot - I buy chicken, meat and vegetarian frozen foods when they are on sale. Plus lots of pantry items.

We use the coupons. Thats

We use the coupons. Thats the main reason we get the sunday paper. i don't really enjoy reading the inquirer. i thinks it sucks. But the coupons make it worth while.

Not having an much storage

Not having an much storage space, I find most coupons useless, as they are hardly ever for just one item anymore. I don't have the room, (even though I live in a big house, somehow, we forgot add storage space anywhere).
Thats why I can never shop at those "Sam's Club" type stores...its just too much.
Also, I have noticed that alot of coupons are for things I would never buy anyway, so how am I saving money...
(I had a dollar off two instant oatmeals, but the brand was priced at $3.99 a box, the generic is $2.99 a box, so why would I pay $6.98 for the brand name, with coupon, instead of $5.98 for the generic?)
I use coupons only for things I would buy anyway.
The library used to have a coupon collection, that you could go and look for ones you need, and leave ones you don't use.
I don't know if they still do that, but it was a good idea.

I have a rule that I never

I have a rule that I never buy anything with a coupon that we will not use. I always cut out and file all the coupons in the circular. (Yeah I have a file...I'M A GEEK) I even cut out ones I will not use - many times I will see people in the store loking at a product (that I would not buy) and I look in the file and see I have a coupon for it then I give it to them. Good for Karma :)

Kat, I too have coupon

Kat,
I too have coupon OCD.
I save ones I'll never use, leave them in the store like you do, and actually keep them in expiration date order, in their little file folder.

If you get the paper

If you get the paper delivered ... They will come.

The man who delivers mine is super.
I also think it can be cheaper.

What I want is my Thursday batch of store flyers.

It is not always here.
I have seen "walkers" pick them up.
What up with that?
I understand trying to keep the streets clean ... BUT

I use those flyers to plan any buying I may be doing over the next week.
For those who are careful shoppers they are real money savers.
They usually contain all the food store ads ... plus.
With Xmas coming they become very important for savey gift shopping.

Hey ... Walkers ... Please just throw them up on the step.
If they are on the ground on Friday ...
That's a different ball of wax.

Boy, I feel like I'm tossing

Boy, I feel like I'm tossing money out the window. I usually spend a ton at the grocery store but I somehow justify it because I used to scrimp and save when I was in school. And I'm totally an impulse buyer. I just bought a book on cupcake creations and a Bisquick receipt book at Wegmans for $40 of my $100 purchase.

But I always donate to whatever charity they have too--figuring I just wasted $5 on a hair product I'll probably never use so I should definitely donate that much. Maybe I should start donating whatever I save to have more of an incentive to do it...less to da man, more to the poor people.

People used to have get

People used to have get togethers for coupon exchanges.

When you need to buy more than you can use split it with family or friends.

Extra coupons can be donated, yes ???

Sorry I don't know where for sure.

Sometimes I just leave them with the product at the market.

I would think the pet coupons could help PAWS for the folks who foster animals.

I have a vague memory of a church that got together to use them to buy stuff to donate to start a food bank.

Any one out there associated with a church want to do some coupon thing?

One place I worked at always

One place I worked at always had a box for coupons in the break room. It was give and take. It worked out very well.

Google it.

I know people send (or at least use to send) coupons, even expired coupons, to overseas military families who live on/near PX's...the families don't get them normally, but the PX's honor them up to 6 months or s after expiration.
