Canvas Closed

brooke's picture

For anyone who has yet to discover, Canvas is now closed. I hear that Phyllis sold it to a new woman and frequent customer named Rachel and it will reopen on November 1. The sad news is that Rachel apparently will be purchasing the baked goods from a as of yet unnamed vendor. (Sadly, it's not Phyllis.)

As someone who visited Canvas at least a few times a week, this place will be sorely missed. Apparently the current employees are being retained and I'm not sure what else is being changed.

Now I'm going to have a moment of silence.

Is Sketch in trouble or is

Is Sketch in trouble or is this so that Phyllis can put more energy into that business?

The sad part is that I found

The sad part is that I found out it was closed yesterday afternoon when I tried to brave the crappy weather to get some coffee. As usual, I would've been better off not leaving the house.

I was majorly bummed after

I was majorly bummed after hearing this news.

The story I heard is that Phyllis has carpel tunnel (sp?) or something that was making it hard for her to do all of the baking. But who knows if that's true.

I will miss going in there on weekend mornings to find out what the daily breakfast sandwich is.

wow, I hope this rachel lady knows how to retain the canvas food quality. If not, I say we riot.

I love that place.

Well I often looked at

Well I often looked at Phyllis as Wonder Woman, and even though everytime I see her she is Working' Working' Working" she has looked a lil exhausted! I loved her Baking' and I surely will miss Canvas' "An amazing Chef that she is, I wouldn't wonder if the closing was due to any trouble' I just think she wants to enjoy life a little' (well at least I hope) and not have to be so overwhelmed with work work work and be ABLE to enjoy more time with her pooches........At least thats what I hope she is doing =)

I hear it wasn't that

I hear it wasn't that profitable for her. Cheapest cup of coffee in town...and my mom TOLD them they were charging too little for their vegan bars (she bought 10 and took them home and freezed them...this is a woman who knows baked goods!) and baked goods. I can see how they didn't make much money. With the real ingredients she used and how much stuff she baked, it was hard to make much money with a full staff, rent costs, supplies that go bad, etc.

Still, I will miss it terribly (until Nov. 1, when I hope to love it again.)

Sketch is not in trouble that I know of...but I can't say I've been more than once. I don't know how many times you can get a burger in a month...I don't have terribly high hopes for it with the lack of diversity of items but I hope they do better.

I wonder if the women next door will take down her milk crate wall now.
I love that wall.

Just because she's selling

Just because she's selling it doesn't necessarily mean that it was doing poorly.

The funniest thing that i

The funniest thing that i seen at the columbia ave Girard intesection was on thanksgiving day. I was at the light waiting to turn on girard and a women was crossing the street diagonally from central pizza to canvas when she stopped in the middle of the street because she finally noticed that canvas was closed. She had this look of utter shock as she just froze in the intersection because of disbelief.

My room mate and I tend to

My room mate and I tend to hit Sketch about every other week. I am addicted to their burgers. I really hope that they are able to stay open. I love the cheese balls served with my burger. I often get worried because there is no one in there or maybe one table is seated. I hope they don't close and I MISS THE DOG!!! That dog was really sweet. Oh yeah I wish they could serve french fries. I don't really need diversity there in food because, well I go there for the burgers, but more sides would be nice. Stay open Sketch - people please eat there the burgers are heavenly good. Good luck Rachel!!

So they weren't open

So they weren't open yesterday, Thursday, when I went to check it out but I'll check again today. They were, however, steadily painting some tables inside. Looks like it's getting a facelift!
