drug rahab's or lack of rehab

biggeo's picture

i was just wondering if there is some way of checking up on these drug clinics that are out there treating these drug abusers. after reading the post about the rape at 6th and girard ave . trust me these people who go to these clinics just get over on the system, by selling there free transpasse's let alone being a public nuisance on the bus that they are taking ,as a bus driver i really get sick of this shit going on day after day, the same faces over and over again. yea they might have a problem but guess what after a couple of years is it a problem or just someway for these clinics to make a easy buck? its like they really don't care about curing these assholes, who really don't want to be cured. is there a answer?

codergrrl's picture

If they "cured" them, they

If they "cured" them, they wouldn't be able to bill the government for "treatment" now would they?
They are no more than legal dealers...they put the "clients" on too high a dose of methadone in the first place, and keep them on it for years. ( just yesterday I saw some mess on the #15 talking about how she's been on methadone for 13 years!) It keeps them tied to the "clinic", with guaranteed income for the people who are running it.
This is a pet peeve of mine, as it has directly affected my family. When the users realize that they just need to go cold turkey, and get rid of all that mess, they might actually have a chance.
It doesn't help that all the clinics have what I hate to even call 'doctors' who will write them scripts for practically whatever they want, that way, nobody ever gets thrown out for a hot urine, cause they all have scripts...and they can make some extra money selling whatever they don't think they're gonna use.
This method of treatment does nothing but keep the users tied to the system for years at time...getting free medical assitance, free cash, free transportation, free food (foodstamps)...its a junkies dream existence. Unfortunately, we're all paying for it, and not only in financial terms.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot all the "groups" the users are supposed to attend...maybe two, three, or four a day....and each one gets to bill Uncle Sam.
Hard to get a job and be productive, when your entire day revolves around "the clinic".

A Family member has been on

A Family member has been on Methadone for 14 yrs', She goes to Jefferson everyday for her "medicine" She was once a Fun' Pretty Girl and had a Life' and for the last 14yrs, her life has been sitting on the Sofa' watching TV, collecting an SSI check and has no self esteem' no desire to accomplish anything' she has been in a daze for 14 yrs' and yes she is to blame' but there was a time when she was a "normal" person who had dreams and goals' and I know that if she would have known what the methadone clinic has caused her life to be' she wouldn't have done it.

It's like she is a Zombie' and the Clinic does nothing to change her dosage' they keep them that way' they also prescribe zanax and valiums for their depression which is a horrible "Mix"

She would get so unbelievably wasted on the meds' and not because she took to many she took what she was prescribed and about 6 yrs ago she stopped taking them on her own' and she went into the most horrible withdrawl' she almost died' never before had I heard of a zanax withdraw, but they had to bring her back to life and then for like 2 months she was in a mental institution' because she was seeing and hearing things' it was HORRIBLE

Did she choose to get on methadone' YUP
Does she still continue to be on Methadone Yup
Can she take back her life that she lost YUP

But the professionals at Jefferson' should be helping her get her life back' not helping her to continue to live a life of being a zombie' to "line their Pockets"

It's disgusting' and they just help drug addicts become Zombie's and I do not know how they lay their heads down at night.............

I was there at one time and

I was there at one time and went through the treatment of getting myself help. They tried thier hardest to push the methadone on me, because I was 18 and they thought it would be my best bet. I turned it down because the withdraw from methadone is 20x's worse then heroine and it also is jsut liek doing heroine but its legal. I have been clean off of drugs for almost 8 years now. I seen a "friend" that I use to get high with just 2 weeks ago and she is still on methadone. She looks horrible and all I could do was say 'BY THE GRACE OF GOD, THERE GOES I". It's terrible how these rehabs and clinics try to push methadone.

codergrrl's picture

They are truly the walking

They are truly the walking dead.

Also, I'm not sure if this is true, but I remember reading it once...that barbituates are the only drugs that can kill you during withdrawl...you may want to die going cold turkey from other things, but you won't actually die, however, if what I remember is true, not the case with barbituates.
That piece of info kept me way far away from the 'Ludes when they were popular...and all of the other downer type drugs.

GOOD for you! It has been 18 year for me. At the time it was the late 80's early 90's, and insurance companies didn't cover "rehab". So my family doctor, told my parents to take me home & "sweat it" out, and i did. It was the longest month of my life. And no one helped me, except my parents. I didn't take any drugs, my parents wouldn't even give me an aspirin. I have lost numerous friends too herion & methadone misuse, and i am thankful for my parents for taking such good care of me, when i needed them.

I know few people like this. Never worked a day in their life and are junkies now collecting SSI. And they wonder why the Social security is hurting. Their giving it all away to the people that never contributed a dime.

Well i always knew it. Kinda simple to figure out. If you have far more people collecting then are contributing your eventually going run out of money. The whole system will colapse. Its the biggest Ponzi scheme going. I am not counting on SS for my retirement i have other retirement plans and I hope you do too.

It's pretty sad that SSI

It's pretty sad that SSI counts all these people as being disabled and gives them disability benefits.

I applied for a medical card

I applied for a medical card to get me through my healing process on 3 spine surgeries since march and my insurance ran out after six months through work and my unemployment checks now make me ineligable for the medical card ???? I know people who are on the medical card and sit on thier ass's all day ... i just dont get the way our state and local governments work . Ive worked for the last 17 years besides now with being hurt and i have no insurance till i get back to work ??? COBRA is too much money to throw around .... SO now i have to take my bank account and basically hide it before i go down to apply for coverage ... it seems like working hard all ur life is a bad thing now ... WTF ...

so i guess u have to be a drug addicted or jobless loser to get help when u need it

I just want to make it clear

I just want to make it clear that I'm not a proponent of methadone. Primarily, I'm frustrated that I know people who want to get clean who are being told they can't get any treatment other than methadone.

That said, I can understand the argument for methadone, despite being against it.

Studies do show that those on methadone, on average, practice less risky behavior than those who aren't. They are less likely to harm themselves, and less likely to harm others.

biggeo's picture

its not that i'm against

its not that i'm against treatment believe me i think anyone who wants help should get it BUT it does get to a point where are you helping or just making the ride easier and more fun? maybe they should just make it legal cause it sure seems to me that those who want it will get it one way or the other ,so we pay one way or another

I have a brother who has been on methadone for the last 3 years. It has made a big change in him. He would probably be dead without it by now. Either at his own hands or someone else killing him because of the way he was. But it doesn't seem like they ever have a real plan of weening them off it so they can be totally drug free. I think if he stops it he will go right back to the way he was. I know how he is. The doctors really don't even though they think they do.

As and aside, from what I

As and aside, from what I understand, and of course I may be wrong, I've read somewhere that the average person uses up what they have contributed to Social Security in like 5-7 years, but (for better or worse) we continue to live longer, and collect longer.
I would like to know if anyone knows the facts on this.
I had a friend who was dying of metastatic breast cancer, and couldn't collect SSI, however, her six year old nephew, who 'supposedly' had ADHD, was gettng a check.

I'm not sure on what your asking but its probably true. They also have recently raised the collection ages up. I have to wait until i'm 67 to collect full social security and not 65 like it used to be. I'm sure the age will be adjusted more since the life spans have been increasing over the years. As for your friend have no clue on why she could not collect. Doesn't sound right. As for the ADHD I think this is the biggest scam going these days. This is another fake illness for the doctors and drug makers to get rich on.

"I am NOT Genuinely a Nice Person, However I Genuinely try every day to be Nice" (and I definitely struggle)

I know a Guy' that has been diagnosed with 4th stage lung cancer' and still has not been able to collect on his disability insurance' and he is an union plumber!!!!

He goes there every week' with his wheelchair and oxygen fighting with them

Then I also know a girl who never worked a day in her life' was on welfare' and when they started making those women go to school/work, she went to a Doctor' got diagnosed as bi polar' had her 10 yr old son committed for 2 weeks saying he was trying to commit suicide' when the doctor wouldn't diagnose him as ADD, and then her younger Son' was diagnosed with ADD, so $2100.00 cash each month from SSI plus Food Stamps' and medical she receives' the system sucks.........
Your worth more to the system if you are a junkie' or welfare bum' except of course if you are a drug addict that is seriously trying to get clean and get help, then of course they wont help you ..................

I would rather they do away

I would rather they do away with social security. Just give me back what i paid into it and stop taking the large amount they take out of my check weekly and let me save and invest for my own future.
