Hello!!

deborah's picture

Hello!! My name is Deborah and I found this place when I was looking up information about Fishtown. I lived on Oxford Street as a child (a lady never tells her age, lol!) and some of it was nice. We were members of St. Anne's Parish even though I remember nothing of it. I have been fortunate to been blessed with a wonderful husband, David, who is quite successful and we have lovely homes in both Maine and Naples, Florida and our Lord has also blessed us with two perfect children! Still, I often find myself thinking of those simpler times as these were 'The Days of our Lives.'

I will tell you a bit of myself. After my parents sent me boarding school at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts I was blessed to gain admission to Cornell University, where I received a prestigious education and met my wonderful David! After college, we wed and moved to Minnesota where David became an executive with Hormel Foods and our lifestyle afforded me the opportunity to pursue my passion for art, particularly Chinese antiquities from the 14th and 15th Centuries. Many of these exquisite items decorate our homes today and have been featured in newspaper articles!

Today, in addition to continuing to collect and enjoying to travel extensively I have also found a new calling as an advocate for excellence in public hygiene. I have established an informational campaign called 'Mission for Hygiene' that uses the internet to educate people in proper hygienic methodologies, including the use of antibacterial agents and non pore-clogging cleansers such as Neutrogena. I feel this is the Lord's work I am doing and am blessed to have touched many with my work. Many in the lower classes do not have access to hygienic knowledge and I am determined to change that!

It is nice to have found this message board about the 'old neighborhood' and look forward to reading about all the new things!

Welcome, I live on Oxford Street now, on the 1200 block. Which block did you grow up on?

If you lived on Oxford street as a child, I don't think you were members of Saint Anne's parish. Did you move off of Oxford Street?

Oh, I think we lived on the SAME block neilpuck!! It was a little brick house near Gerard Street! Oh what a coincidence! What is it like there now? My mother didn't like to talk about those days and I don't remember much.

I remember my mother SPECIFICALLY saying that we were MEMBERS OF ST. ANNE'S and I do not recall us living anywhere in Fishtown other than Oxford Street! She has passed now and thusly I cannot ask her directly.

Please share my thanks with David for all of the Spam, pepporoni and beef stew that i have enjoyed over the years.

Well, I don't know if you are being rude with your comments or not but David is VERY proud of his work with Hormel and those products you mentioned have provided us with a BEAUTIFUL lifestyle, dear.

David and I have our Summer

David and I have our Summer home in North Sedgwick, which is considerably north of Kennebunkport. It is a stunning area and our neighbors here include very accomplished people in the arts and academia. Luckily, we do not recive many tourists in this area as much of it is private and inaccessible. It is so restful. I hope that some of you are fortunate enough to escape the hot, grimy city and come to such a spectacular setting as this.

Deborah, do you remember the pizza truck? Surely where you live now, you may not have something so pedestrian, but you must have some fond memories of simpler times, lol.

I have never heard of any such thing. Honestly, I cannot tell if people here are being serious or not. I simply came here seeking information about a place where I lived briefly as a child and am met with derision and a person mocking the Hormel Company and their products which have been such a blessing to David and I. I belive it to be no small measure of jealousy. Small wonder that Philadelphia has the reputation it does!

oh common we are the CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE, my dear. We are all very nice wonderful people UNTIL you get to know us or when post on fishtown.us.

I reckon we should all wash our nasty unhygenic mouths out with some neutrogena but that won't help our sickly minds any!

The blessings of potted meat products are many, Deborah. May the Lord continue to bestow these gifts of Spam and Vienna Sausage upon you.

I did not mean to offend you; I asked with the utmost seriousness. Having grown up here, I thought you may wish to reminisce about the pizza truck, as it is a favorite aspect of Fishtown. No worries. What are the things you remember and would like to reminisce about?

I'd love to know more about your Mission for Hygiene! Do you have a web site that I can check out? Us lower class folk in the old neighborhood would definitely benefit from your help! My pores are just overflowing with the hot dirty grime you left behind.

"Deborah" made three accounts? Please tell me it was her husband, and maybe a long-lost cousin of some sort?

Just thinking the same thing when i just read this for the first time. This is something a new commer would miss here. Parishiner rules were based on where you lived. Especially when it applied to what school you could go to. Might be a little different now because of closing of many of the schools over the years.

Dan, would you consider reinstating her account long enough for me to apoligize for any offense caused by the Hormel comments?

Those folks from the midwest are terribly sensitive... I truly didn't mean to offend.

Well, considering how boring this forum can get, Dan's benign-standard often results in less than passionate discourse.

Can we have another thread about pets? Oh I love Luaraska's concise opinions on them!

The first purpose of this forum is to serve, not to entertain -
although I love it when it can be entertaining.

Passionate discourse is not only allowed, but encouraged.
The problem is that too many people mistake an insult for discourse.
