***BERMUDA TANS****

netable's picture

Just wanted Everyone that is interested to know that there is a New Tanning Salon located at 2nd and Brown across from the Ironworks II gym. I recently joined and I must admit that the beds are Great, I got Great Color from my session. They also offer "Air Brushing Tan" although I haven't had it done from them, but I went a few times to the Bronzing Bar on Passyunk, and I like the Air Brush when I have to go to a "Special Event" The Staff is Great too! Very Friendly,. lotions are Fab. I think there is a "Free Tan" coupon in the City Paper. Not only did I love the color that I got, but I truly appreciated that after my sessions my fat butt doesn't even break out in a sweat or feel the least bit hot. I normally take a shower immediately after tanning and I don't have to there, I can run all the errands that I need to without feeling all yukky. So if there is any tanners' out there, stop by Bermuda and check it out, I am sure you will enjoy!!

I know George! How sad it is

I know George! How sad it is that I freakn let myself go, the sad thing is that I never understood how people let it happen to themselves, boy~ now do I know how, lots and lots of carbs!!! I am taking baby steps now to get back to the old me, I started tanning, joined the gym (must admit, I originally thought that by having the member card hanging from my keys that the weight will just drop off!) I am hoping to find time to attend this week~ ughhhh its so friggin hard. I have been watching what I am putting in my mouth, Thankfully the Acropolis has been on me about eating healthier foods,. so I eat Greek Greens everynight! But, I miss me, and I want the old me back, but thank you George for always being my Awesome neighbor/friend who always makes me smile and laugh even when I feel like hell!

Love Ya George!

I highly recommend

I highly recommend self-tanner. We love you and don't want you to get cancer. Neutrogena self-tanner is the way to go! (The Baywatch cast used it!)

There is nothing healthy

There is nothing healthy about a tan.
Being tan was always considered declasse, until Coco Chanel got a tan once on the French Riveria, and then if became fashionable.
Being tan meant you were a low life who had to work in a field outside, or as a laborer, for example.
Please don't patronize tanning salons, (unless your just getting it sprayed on), as your only helping the Dermatologist and Oncologist.

But what if you think Coco Chanel was punk?

I'm not quite sure what that

I'm not quite sure what that means, but for some reason I don't remember Sid Vicious looking very tan, (or coherent, for that matter!)

After years of surfing and sunning in CA I go for the Neutrogena self tanner now myself. It's a wonder my skin is not much more damaged (thank God). I would totally go for the spray on tan though - I am not so good at getting the self tanner on evenly.

With my european mutt

With my european mutt heritage, I couldn't tan even if I wanted to...a good sunburn sometimes fades to a tannish color, but I'm not willing to suffer that much for the look. Besides, I might be from Jersey, but I'd prefer that people NOT be able to look at me and automatically tell that I am...

That being said, I was thinking of doing the spray tan thing for my wedding. Can you get a very very light bit of color? I just don't want to look like a ghost in my pictures, since I'm very light skinned and I'll be wearing a white dress and I have blond hair...you get the picture...

Laura, I totally think you

Laura, I totally think you can. My sister and Jes got spray-ons for my wedding last summer and they looked great. I think you would look very pretty with a light tan for your wedding!

Lisa, did they get the ones where someone else sprays it on you, or where you just get into the booth and a computer sprays you...either option scares me in different ways.

mmmmm, I don't know.

mmmmm, I don't know. Computers in a booth, I think. We were down on Walnut and 17th (or thereabouts). Bern has done it more than once. She just said make sure your knees and elbows are exfoliated and moisturized or they will absorb more color and look funny. Check yr pms.

At "Bermuda" they Air Brush it on, although I have not received their air brushing techniques, I have however done it a few times at the "Bronzing Bar" on Passyunk Ave, it looks beautiful the first 3 days, so even, NOT Orange, I looked like I was on a Island for a few months, it was so natural, plus no tan lines and my skin looked flawless. Then after 3 days I hated it, I felt like an old car with paint chipping off me. LOL but I just exfoliated it off real good! Because I liked the first 3 days, I did go back a few times (when I had special events to attend) and The Owner told me to just use my hand as a wash cloth so not to take off the color ("paint") but I just cannot get it to last more then 3 days because
1. Fat Girls Sweat
2. Don't feel Clean by just using my hand and soap. Im a scrubber
3. Too much maintenance to get it to last longer then 3 days

If I was getting married, I would def get it done and see how I like it a few weeks prior to the wedding date.

I Loved the way it made my skin look flawless though......

The few times that I went to a "self spraying booth" I always got yukky orange streaks everywhere, I'm just no good at doing it myself =)

The trick with self tanner

The trick with self tanner is to use "hair dying" gloves. Put them on and keep rubbing the stuff in place until you don't see it anymore and your skin feels dry. The gloves save your hands from looking like you've been digging in clay and also glide the stuff around better. It should take about 30 minutes to properly put on. Exfoliate first. And trust me, use Neutrogena. A few of my friends have been trying out a few cheap and high end brands over the past few months and Neutrogena takes the cake. Self-tanners are no longer orange--they've improved them beyond that.

That said, I'd go to have it done professionally if I had an event because even the deepest self-tanner won't look like you've been in the Bahamas after an application.

My self-tanner usually lasts weeks and fades over time and the ideal is to layer it. I think I have 3 layers on now (and still look pale, mind you). You should exfoliated before putting more on but in a gentle way. Or use a sponge but Netable, I feel bad for your skin the way you're describing it! Be kind to thine self, sweet lady!!! :)

Thanks!! I will definitely

Thanks!! I will definitely check out the Neutrogena. I sometimes use the Lancome Brand but it's only for your Face.

A 50 something guy i work

A 50 something guy i work with who has a getting old problem use some type of rub on tan that gives him a nice pumpkin orange looks. He also had some blond highlights added to his graying hair. He thinks he looks good though. The only thing good about it is the laugh it gives all us co-workers.
