1. Eat dinner together as a family
2. See the kid gets enough sleep
3. Limit TV time to 2 hours per day
makes the kid 40% less likely to be obese

health care is a major issue.
smoking, alcohol overuse, and obesity are the three big things we can change to make major improvements.

I laud Michelle Obama's
I laud Michelle Obama's initiative but cringe at the way she has used the terms "overweight" and "pudgy" to describe her daughters. She could have just stressed the healthy aspects of eating right and exercising without making her kids poster children for the obesity epidemic. I think she sometimes tries way too hard to be seen as one of "us" and uses language she thinks the masses will more readily relate to. Besides, it's absolutely absurd that either of her girls would be seen as dangerously heavy so it makes her look obsessive.
I really disagree that the
I really disagree that the only message we should send to kids is that lowering their calorie intake is all
that matters, but that's also because I believe that "skinny" does not always = "healthy". The amount of sodium, fat, and sugar in a "chips and soda diet" is dangerous and can affect blood sugar, heart health, cholesterol levels, and other organ function. This is the point I was trying to make earlier...the focus on children should not be based solely on weight. This is not about whether little Johnny can get a girlfriend or if little Betty can fit into her confirmation dress. I really feel that if we don't help kids make the right choices now, we will see an increase in heart disease and diabetes (especially among women) in the coming years.
