Thanks! I want to thank everyone who came out, whether you were for or against the proposal. I appreciate everyone's opinions. I hope I was able to settle some neighbor's concerns. I am looking forward to the next steps, and I will keep people posted on my progress. Words can't express how much this all means to me.
For anyone who has continuing concerns, I look forward to helping with your pursuits towards a better Fishtown. Whether it's a neighborhood clean up, or a church food drive, you can count me in.
Thanks again.

Tim - I will be there
Tim - I will be there tonight to support you. I also have a few friends who are from Fishtown that will be joining me in your support. See you tonight!!
i will absolutely address
i will absolutely address that both here and at the meeting.
i fully understand the negative connotations tattooing carries. i actually share a lot of those opinions. this is one of my main reasons for opening a private studio. when most people think "tattoo shop" they think of criminals and drunks. i understand that. my doors are not open to the general public. entry is by appointment. you need to buzz people through the front door at 2424, and that's why i love it. i truly love what i do, but at the same time i want to separate myself from that sort of stereotype. i will be the only tattoo artist in the unit.
also, most of my clientele waits several weeks, if not months, to see me. they are generally early 30's to early 40's, professionals, and are coming to see me for my expertise. i have clients who fly in from california, canada, and even as far as wales and spain.
i love what they are doing in 2424 studios. there are somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 units, and a cafe is in the works. they just don't have a tenant for it yet. there is also a daycare, medical offices, several artists, photographers, music producers, realtors, green housing development...you name it, it's there.
i do plan on using art machine as a vehicle for charity. i have a strong desire to help others and i believe that establishing myself and my business is the way for me to truly start doing just that.

Hi Tim,
I live across the street from 2424, and I'm planning to come and vote at the meeting tonight. I'm looking forward to hearing your presentation and then deciding how to vote (haven't made up my mind yet). I think you are going to have a lot of people at the meeting who feel that tattoo parlors attract the "wrong" or a "bad" element. Can you post a bit about how that won't happen in the case of your shop?
I also think something else you will hear from people is that they would prefer a commercial venue that they will "use" in that space. For instance, I would love for a coffee shop to go in there, since that is someplace I might visit every day, rather than a tattoo parlor that I might visit once or not at all. So I think it would be helpful if you can post here and / or talk tonight about how the shop will be an amenity for people even if they're not planning to come get a tattoo (i.e. the artist space you're planning, etc.).
Also, I think you support for charitable causes (suicide prevention, the homeless) is amazing and you should definitely highlight at the meeting all the philanthropy you do.
Best,
Carol
i thought that was
i thought that was interesting too, but i figured it made some sense. hopefully see everyone on tuesday!
interesting that ORCA is
interesting that ORCA is included.
technically it's in FNA territory, and not ORCA...
but, given ORCA is across the street, it makes sense to include ORCA.
I'm one of those few who, by virtue of living on the north side of York, is actually in overlapping territory.
